LoveArts Review
LoveArts is an online dating site for lovers of the arts. They attempt to “connect you with thousands of singles who share your interests, whether in performing, visual or literary arts, in a safe and secure online environment“. But can a niche site this specific really be all that good? Is it the best way to meet singles who are into the arts? In this review, we tell you everything you need to know.
Features
LoveArts is really lacking in the features department. I’m assuming that they believe the niche nature of their site is strong enough to draw members in without needing to have anything in addition. This site is bare bones: browse and message other members.
- Free to sign up, but need to be a paid subscriber to send messages.
- Create a detailed profile and add up to 10 photos.
- Add members to your “favourites”.
- Send and receive messages from other members.
- Available on a mobile site.
- Connect with LoveArts through social media: Twitter and Facebook.
The Bad
LoveArts has good intentions (I mean, first they want to make money.. but then their intentions are good), but the problem is that their niche is too specific. Some niche sites work because they’re needed – fetish dating sites, dating sites for those with HIV, etc – but LoveArts? Very few people are so reliant on the arts that they need to find someone equally reliant. I mean, most people have SOME interest in the arts. You’re going to have a WAY better chance to meet single people online if you use a popular site with a broad theme, like PassionSearch or XPRESS. These sites have way more members and although you will find singles without your love of the arts, you will find plenty of art lovers galloping around the site trying to make their own relationship masterpiece.
LoveArts has a very small member base and unless you live in a major city, it is going to be hard to find someone in your area. Many members have trouble even getting any search results at all. LoveArts addresses this in their FAQ with an exaggerated example, but as a “frequently asked question”, I get the feeling it is a pretty consistant problem:
WHY DO I NOT GET ANY RESULTS WHEN I SEARCH?
You are most probably making your search criteria too narrow. Try relaxing your requirements a bit, e.g. a wider age range, etc. If you are looking for a blonde, blue eyed 21 year old, non-smoking female living in Outer Mongolia who wants children, chances are you will not get many results!
Oh, and were you interested in privacy? In one of The Stage (LoveArts parent site)’s blog articles, they let you know that you can find members, favourite them, and “even ask your friends what they think by sharing their profile on Facebook!” Um, no thanks. I prefer my online dating to be somewhat discreet, not plastered all over Facebook before they even message me!
Pricing
LoveArts is free to sign up for, but if you want to actually use any of their services, you will need to upgrade. They have three subscription package options: £11.00 ($18.09 USD) per month for a six month subscription, £14.67 ($24.13 USD) per month for a three month subscription, or £22.00 ($36.18 USD) per month for a one month subscription. They also have a three day trial for £6.95 ($11.43 USD).
First, you could never in a million years convince me to pay $11.43 for a THREE DAY TRIAL. Are you insane? For that price you might as well at least go for the one month subscription. But that’s besides the point – LoveArts is charging way more for their online dating site than any other in recent memory. Compared to some sites that are only charging $12.00 per month for a site with more members and more features – LoveArts feels and awful lot like a ripoff.
And BE WARNED: LoveArts automatically renews your subscription when it expires. This means that unless you remember to specifically cancel your subscription, you will be be charged again! They also charge you in one lump payment, so if you subscribe to the 6 month subscription, you will be charged one payment of £66.00 ($108.54 USD), instead of 11.00 ($18.09 USD) once per month.
Conclusion
If you’re wondering where to meet single people that are as into the arts as you are, LoveArts may not be as obvious a choice as you think. With such a small member base, a serious lack of site features, and a price tag that will make your credit card company question your suspicious spending, you’re much better off on a mainstream dating site. Many sites even offer a 100% match guarantee, so you know you won’t be wasting your money! Check out our reviews of the best dating sites!
